The Laboratory of Applied Electrodynamics
The LAE team has a long (more than 30 years) and successful experience in research and development of various antenna and EMC problems. During theperiod 1970-1980, these works were performed under the orders of the Defense Ministry, the Defense Industry Ministry, the Radio Industry Ministry, the Naval Ministry, the Management Committee of Education Ministry, as well as other Institutes of the Former Soviet Union (GEORGIAN). In particular, the Tbilisi group was involved in carrying out top-secret research on the development of extremely narrow beam forming antenna arrays with extra-rapidly changing beam direction, antennas of flying objects with homing guidance, hidden (camouflage) antennas, etc. (Top-secret researches "Mina" ("Mine"), "Zhidkost" ("Liquid"), etc.). Even until the end of the USSR, the LAE was involved in electromagnetic research problems that were carried out under the resolutions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Council of Ministry of USSR from 1.05.85, N308-126, "Shakhta ("Pit") KO4T"; from 2.08.84, N837-180 Complex-4; under the Decision of Commission of Council of Ministers on Military Industry Problems from 5.10.85, N328 "Shickotan - Phase2". They were also participants in the complex goal programs "Izluchenie" ("Radiation") under the order of Education Ministry N53c from 27.02.86, "Complex" under the order of Management Committee N7 of Radio Industry Ministry, and "UHF-2"- under the order of Education Ministry N64 from 11.03.84 and N797 from 03.12.86.
After the destruction of the USSR, the Tbilisi research team focused its engineering research efforts toward electromagnetic modeling problems of relevance to commercial applications for consumer electronics and in particular communications and wireless technology.
Together with the scientific work, members of LAE participate in the process of education in order to bring up the young generation of physicists.
Members of LAE deliver lectures in Electromagnetism and Optics at the Institute of Physics of Tbilisi State University.
On basis of LAE was created the magistracy with the speciality "Computer Simulation of Physical Processes". Present Research Directions and Selected Past Research Experience:
